X-rays allow us to see everything we cannot see with our own eyes. They enable us to detect cavities in between your teeth, and determine bone level, and health of bone. We can also examine the roots and nerves of teeth, diagnose lesions such as cysts or tumors, as well as assess damage when trauma occurs.

Dental x-rays are invaluable aids in diagnosing, treating, and maintaining dental health. Exposure time for dental x-rays is extremely minimal.

We utilize Digital Imaging Technologies within the office. With digital imaging, exposure time is about 80 percent less when compared to traditional x-rays. Digital imaging can also help us retrieve valuable diagnostic information. We are able to see cavities better as we view them on a computer monitor.

The advantages of digital imaging enable us to not only store patient images, but also enable us to quickly transfer them to appropriate specialists or insurance companies.

Digital X-rays offer more precision since we view the image on a computer monitor, instead of holding up a 35mm film up to the light. Digital X-rays result in 1/6th the radiation exposure to you.

Dental X-Rays FAQs

Q. Why do I need dental x-rays?

A. There are many dental problems in which the patient does not experience discomfort until such time that extensive and more costly care is necessary. X-rays are an excellent tool to diagnose the oral disease early on. Problems could include areas damaged due to trauma, areas of decay, root abscess, bone loss associated with periodontal disease, and even cancer. With the benefits of low-dose digital x-rays the risk of undiagnosed oral disease is greater than any risk associated with digital x-rays. Taken as recommended, they are a noninvasive and safe way of helping us develop a plan to restore a patient’s dental health.

Q. What is a panoramic x-ray?

A. A panoramic x-ray is a two-dimensional image made on a device that spins around your head. A visualization of the entire anatomy from the bottom of your lower jaw to the area just above your eyes is evaluated. We look for impacted teeth, irregularities in the TMJ, sinus obstructions, bone loss, missing teeth, and a host of possible pathologies, including cancer.

Q. What is an FMX?

A. An FMX, or Full Mouth X-ray, is a comprehensive series of individual images (18) of the entire mouth for diagnostic purposes.
