You may have TMJ dysfunction disorder and not even realize it. How is that possible? Often, the symptoms of TMJ disorder affect more than your mouth.

What are the symptoms of TMJ disorder?

• Pain or soreness around the jaw joints

What Causes TMJ Disorder?

TMJ disorder is often a result of malocclusion (a poorly aligned bite).

When your top jaw is aligned with your bottom jaw, your bite is in its optimal position and the muscles will be calm and relaxed.

When the alignment is off, painful symptoms can result.

TMJ Treatment Options

If you are diagnosed with malocclusion, we will recommend a treatment plan that will correct your bite and alleviate pain and discomfort.

Treatment plans may include:

Occlusal Adjustment – Dental restorations, including crowns and veneers, can be placed on your teeth to raise or lower areas of your bite, creating a natural position for your jaw.

Splint Therapy – Splint therapy can put your bite back into proper alignment.
When the splint is worn over the upper teeth, it gently repositions the muscles, joint and teeth so they work together without strain or pain.

Night Guard – A Night Guard is a custom-fit appliance that is worn during sleep. It prevents teeth grinding during the night, so you awake refreshed and renewed. And so does your jaw.
